ATHLETA ★★★ T-Shirt. Light green T-Shirt by ATHLETA with their logo and a subtle Café do Brasil graphic on the left side. Shortly after I moved to Tokyo, I began recognizing the same logo on tracksuits, backpacks, puffers, and T-shirts all over the metros. “ATHLETA” written out under three stars, and sometimes paired with the logo of the Brazilian coffee company “Café do Brasil”. I immediately became sort of obsessed with Athleta – something that only accelerated after I found out about the backstory of the brand. Apparently, Athleta was the company that originally manufactured the jerseys of Brazil’s national football team. A Japanese company later bought the rights to pay homage to the legacy of Brazilian football, and had great success. It’s one of those things that aren’t paid much attention to since sportswear is often a merely practical necessity, but I was even driven close to the point of getting the logo tattooed across my lower body. Japanese PE teachers wear it, we wear it, and you should too.
